How to evaluate an activewear manufacturer — a factory's honest checklist
Sourcing activewear comes down to matching the factory to your stage. Here's what we'd check if we were in your shoes:
- Factory vs. trading agent. Ask who actually owns the machines. A real manufacturer can show you the cutting floor, the seamless lines and the QC room; a trading agent forwards your tech pack to someone else and adds margin. (We run two in-house facilities: Xiamen cut-and-sew and Yiwu seamless.)
- MOQ vs. your stage. Low MOQ matters most at launch. We start from 100 sets for stock styles with your logo, so first-time brands can test the market before scaling into full custom OEM/ODM production.
- Sampling speed. A first sample in about 7 days tells you the factory's pattern-making and tech-pack discipline. Slow sampling usually means a slow, frustrating bulk run.
- A quality system, not promises. Ask the AQL level they inspect to (we default to AQL 2.5 for major defects), whether they run in-line (DUPRO) checks, and how they handle stretch-fabric QC — recovery, seam stretch and colorfastness after washing.
- Certifications that match your market. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (skin-safe chemistry), BSCI (social compliance), REACH / CPSIA (EU & US safety), GRS (recycled content). Match these to where you sell.
- Capability range. Confirm they can actually build what you need — seamless (Santoni 17–21"), cut-and-sew, high-impact to light support, and the right fabric weights for your category.
