GSM Selector: What Fabric Weight Does Your Activewear Need?

Find your fabric weight in three questions

1. What are you making?
2. Primary training use?
3. Will you sell light colours (white, pastels)?

Why fabric weight is the first spec to get right

GSM — grams per square metre — is the single most quoted number in activewear development, because it moves everything at once: opacity, support, drape, warmth and cost. Our production legging range runs 220–320 g/m², with compression styles at the heavy end and yoga/lounge intents at the light end.

But GSM is a starting range, not a verdict. Two fabrics at identical weight can behave differently depending on fibre mix, knit structure and finish — which is why the tool above ends every answer the same way: confirm on a physical swatch, under stretch, in daylight. The deeper reasoning lives in the legging fabric weight guide.
